Georgetown Center for Translational Imaging
The Georgetown Center for Translational Imaging (CTI) engages in preclinical and translational research in the bioengineering and imaging fields and actively leads research in the areas of: hardware research, development and testing; MRI contrast agent and nanoparticle development; anatomical and metabolic imaging of the pancreas, kidney, breast, prostate and other cancers; imaging of mouse models of disease including childhood cancers such as medulloblastoma, Ewing’s Sarcoma and neuroblastoma; imaging of neurological, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders and provides extensive methodologies for image analysis.
Imaging Contrast Agent development and generation includes Manganese and Iron based paramagnetic “cluster-nanocarrier” platform which improve contrast in T1-weighted and T2-weighted imaging as well as dual T1- and T2-contrast enhancement. Research in increased contrast sensitivity is achieved through out development of novel image visualization methods which include mathematical image elaboration algorithms and the physics of psycho-optics (how the brain perceives what the eye observes).
Medical Physics Graduate Program: The Master in Medical Physics graduate education program, the only one of its kind in the DC metropolitan area, is offered under the umbrella of the CTI. This new Georgetown program, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics (CAMPEP), provides training in the imaging technologies provided by the CTI. More information about this program can be found at: https://medicalphysics.georgetown.edu/
CTI comprises the following equipment and lines of development:
CTI is closely associated with the Preclinical Imaging Research Laboratory (PIRL) in the Georgetown University Medical Center. More information about this facility can be found at: http://Preclinical Imaging Research Laboratory (PIRL)
The Masters-level graduate program in Medical Physics at Georgetown provides the training for the types of imaging being carried out in the CTI. More information about this program can be found at: https://medicalphysics.georgetown.edu/
