Post-doctoral fellowship
Georgetown University Medical Center
The Department of Neuroscience, through the “Aging and Alzheimer’s Research Training” program (AART), is offering a postdoctoral position to study Aging, Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias. This full-time research fellowship for postdoctoral scholars is in the lab of Dr. G. William Rebeck. The fellowship is for investigation of cellular processes that relate to structure, function, chemical composition and metabolism associated with aging and APOE genotype. It combines pre-clinical multidimensional MRI with complementary histological and molecular methods. The Rebeck lab has a long-standing focus on genetic risk factors for Alzheimer’s Disease; recent interests include cognitive impairment associated with diabetes and chemotherapy.
The immediate goals of the fellowship are:
- Develop multi-modal MRI and image analysis platforms to associate imaging metrics with pathology and behavior.
- Develop novel neuroimaging tools to map cellular processes in rodent models.
- Apply spatial proteomic, transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses that are supported by in vivo imaging.
Environment: The Department of Neuroscience is in the Georgetown University Medical Center, which includes the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Department of Neuroscience has dynamic programs covering both clinical and preclinical research. The small animal imaging resource includes a newly installed 7T/30 Bruker Avance NEO MRI running ParaVision 360, housed in the Preclinical Imaging Research Laboratory and the Center for Translational Imaging. Ongoing research initiatives include investigations into the impact of genetics and aging on neurocognition and the impact of chemotherapy on brain structure and function. The rich Georgetown academic community presents unique opportunities for multimodal integrated research and training.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a relevant supporting field (e.g. Engineering or Physics)
- Background in acquisition and/or analysis of MRI data.
- Knowledge of Linux and programming skills such as MATLAB/Python/R
- Evidence of written and oral communication skills.
- U.S citizen or a valid Green Card (required)
Compensation: The salary is consistent with NIH Training Grant guidelines; benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, paid time-off, and conference time.
How to Apply: Applicants should contact Bill Rebeck (gwr2@georgetown.edu) and submit: a cover letter with a brief description of research interests and experiences; a current CV; and the names of three references.
